My Story: How I Used Nervous System Regulation to Heal My ME/CFS | Episode 2

I’ve tried out a lot of things while trying to heal and recover from ME/CFS. Acupuncture, the Perrin technique, veganism, yoga, pilates, tonnes of supplements, therapy, physiotherapy, osteopathy - you name it, I’ve done it! I can hear you asking right now, “what actually worked?”. Well, in today’s episode, that’s exactly what I’m diving into.

I didn’t realise it at the time, but the things that worked for me actually turned out to be nervous system regulation techniques. I’m clearly a big advocate for nervous system regulation (as you can see by the name of this podcast!) as every time I tried to push my body to do more, or just “be normal”, I would completely wear myself out.

One of the things I go deeper into in today’s episode is movement. When I started to realise that I could do a form of exercise that didn’t feel like a punishment, it really stuck for me. Some weeks I’d only really be going to class to chat with the other people that went along too, some of whom also had chronic illnesses. Eventually, I realised I was feeling safer in my body and that I had been listening to what it was telling me. This was one of those turning point moments for me in discovering that I could heal myself!

To learn more about everything else I tried, dive into today’s episode!

In this episode, I’m chatting about:

  • The many things I tried out in an attempt to heal

  • The lifestyle & diet change that gave me my energy back

  • How I realised that what I was doing was actually nervous system regulation

  • Going to Ibiza and Miami (alone!) and what I learnt on these trips
